What are the advantages of steel belt pipes?

2021-07-30

For conventional steel-banded pipes, it’s typically challenging to achieve an环 stiffness rating higher than SN 8. However, the new structural design effortlessly enables these pipes to reach SN8, SN12.5, SN16—and even higher ratings. On the other hand, this type of pipe features a steel tube as its middle layer, with corrosion-resistant steel bands applied to both the inner and outer surfaces, delivering outstanding protective performance. As a result, this composite anti-corrosion pipe is perfectly suited for a wide range of harsh environments. For instance, in certain coastal regions where the soil contains corrosive substances, using concrete pipes would lead to a remarkably short service life. This makes it highly desirable to switch to corrosion-resistant plastic underground drainage pipes. Yet, historically, the lack of high-环 stiffness products meant these designs couldn’t meet engineering requirements—now, however, steel-banded pipes provide the ideal solution.

  2. Reduce material costs

In addition to these enhanced functionalities, another clear advantage is the significant reduction in material costs. Compared to other plastic pipes with the same diameter and ring stiffness, steel-banded pipes can save nearly half the material consumption.

Polyethylene accounts for only two-thirds of the total weight of the composite pipe; in a scenario where plastic prices continue to rise, this makes it an excellent solution for reducing material costs. After thin steel strips are pressed into steel ribs, the resulting ring stiffness far surpasses that achieved by even robust polyethylene structural layers. By carefully designing the thickness and height of the steel ribs, it’s easy to meet the required ring stiffness standards. In steel-reinforced pipes, polyethylene serves primarily as a corrosion- and abrasion-resistant layer, meaning the amount of steel used in the ribs can be minimized, while still maintaining efficient use of polyethylene as well.
